Modern Take on Israeli Classics
Do you know the meaning of “Kapara”? It’s used in Israeli slang to express love and appreciation for someone. I must say, I Kaparad them! Tucked away in the heart of the vibrant Soho neighborhood, Kapara Israeli Restaurant stands out as a hidden gem that beckons food enthusiasts to embark on a flavorful journey through the Middle East.
The chic décor, adorned with charming pink tiles, sets the scene for an immersive dining experience. The restaurant exudes an air of casual elegance, making it equally suitable for a relaxed lunch or an intimate dinner with a great list of drink options. If you’re visiting during the summer, I highly recommend checking out the terrace as well.
Furthermore, their service is noteworthy. They took care of me while I was waiting for my friend, ensuring that each dish and wine tasted great. And, to top it all off, they even treated us to three shots!
What I Ordered:
*Brasied Aubergine & Tomato Hummus
The first forkful was a delightful encounter with contrasting textures. The aubergine, braised to tender perfection, practically melted in my mouth. The hummus itself was incredibly smooth, and what I liked most was the Middle Eastern aromatic flavor derived from the amba spice.
And you know what else got me? It was that freshly baked pita bread – the ultimate scoop for the aubergine and hummus duo. The inside was all soft and pillowy, giving this awesome contrast to the creamy goodness.
Hispi Cabbage
The presentation could have been executed better, but I absolutely loved their ponzu sauce. This dish unexpectedly transported me back home to Japan through its flavors. It was evident that the charring process had imparted a smoky essence. The cabbage’s inherent sweetness was enhanced by the charring, resulting in a well-rounded flavor profile that managed to be both delicate and robust at the same time.
Whole On The Coal
This dish, a captivating theatre of taste and presentation, invited me to indulge in a seafood experience.
They charred the sea bream just right, adding this smoky kick that totally high-fived the sea’s delicate vibe. And get this, the burnt sage brought a little bit of a bitter twist that took things up a notch.
Oh, and those baby plum tomatoes? Teaming up with the fennel, which has that kind of anise hint, they joined forces with the sea bream in this flavor party that was like land and sea coming together for an epic session.
*Sticky Treat
It was a true masterpiece that embodied the harmony of flavors, textures, and creativity. The richness of the dates and treacle was offset by the lightness of the poppy seed ice cream, while the complexity of the baharat crumble united them into a cohesive whole. Each element enhanced the other, creating a dessert that’s greater than the sum of its parts. It was definitely a “Sticky” Treat.
Conclusion:
As I concluded my dining experience at Kapara Israeli Restaurant, I couldn’t help but appreciate the fusion of two vibrant cities. They’ve nailed combining Tel Aviv’s realness with London’s coolness, making it more than just a meal. And with the friendly and attentive service, if you’re up for a Mediterranean-meets-urban vibe, Kapara has got that enchanting thing going on. Trust me, you’ll be itching for a repeat visit before you even step away from the table. Check the Tripadvisor too, since they have good reviews.
