Where the Owner’s Heart Honors His Father’s Legacy
If your idea of a perfect evening after a long day involves culinary enchantment, Bistro Freddie is a dream come true. Nestled in Shoreditch, the team from Bar Crispin has ventured into the world of classic British and French-inspired gastronomy.
Ambiance:
When I stumbled upon this charming little bistro on a quiet corner, I had been transported to an intimate Parisian hideaway bathed in sexy rouge hues. Dimly candle-lit, with just the right touch of romance, this bistro’s ambiance creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
Service:
All the staff were attentive and ensured we had a pleasant dinner with them. From the moment you step in until you leave the restaurant, you are made to feel like a valued guest.
Especially, Max took excellent care of us and explained that their name, ‘Freddie,’ was derived from the owner’s father. After hearing that story, I felt a warm sense of connection and as though I was savoring the dinner in honor of the owner’s family legacy.

Extremely pleased with their pricing. Considering the excellent service, the delicate food, and the overall experience, their prices are very reasonable.
What I Ordered:
Baguette & Butter
The baguette brought me to Paris. Its simple, yet the quality was exceptional.
House Grilled Sausage BF Sauce
The sausage had a delightful smoky flavor, and offered the spot-on texture. However, the BF Sauce seemed to lack a distinct flavor profile, and its necessity in the dish was uncertain.
Mushroom Perfait Grilled Bread
The Mushroom Perfait had a rich and velvety blend of various mushroom and coated my palate with layers of deep goodness. The texture was luxuriously smooth and creamy, inviting me to savor every spoonful.
The grilled bread, with its crisp exterior, provided an ideal textural contrast to the luxurious creaminess of the parfait.
Pork Chop Apple graze and Bacon Jus
The Pork Chop was cooked to tender perfection, with a moist interior and a beautifully seared exterior.
I was expecting a richer and thicker apple glaze, but I couldn’t discern any distinct flavor or texture from it. Additionally, the bacon jus lacked the desired layer of savory complexity. This dish left room for a bit more depth in its flavor profile.
Fried Skate Wing Curry Sauce
The fried skate wing was skillfully arranged, showcasing its delicate, flaky texture.
The curry sauce added a pop of color to the dish, but this sauce turned out to be just creamy and lacked the anticipated bold flavors of turmeric and cumin. Reminded me of that Japanese curry rice sauce you get from a pack.
It’s a pity because the fish itself was expertly fried, achieving a crispy, golden-brown exterior while maintaining its moist, flaky interior. The delicate taste of the skate wing deserved a more vibrant curry sauce to truly shine.
Steamed Pudding Pouring Custard
The dessert arrived with rustic charm, and the sight of a perfectly steamed pudding was inviting, exuding a cozy, homemade appeal.
With each spoonful, I enjoyed a world of rich, moist, and intensely flavorful delight, featuring a delightful hint of orange zest. Its texture was divine – soft, moist, and utterly irresistible.
The pouring custard was a velvety, creamy companion that subtly enhanced the sweetness and lusciousness of the pudding. It wasn’t overly sweet, allowing the pudding’s flavors to shine while providing a comforting, silky contrast.
Conclusion:
Bistro Freddie is set to officially open next Friday, and I’m confident this gem will live up to its well-deserved reputation as Oklava did. It’s a place where food and romance intertwine, where service is an expression of love, and where every bite is a sweet surrender like eating at someone’s home dinner table.
All the dishes were somewhat lacking in depth of flavor in the sauce, but that’s what gave them a comforting, homely quality as a whole dining experience, which isn’t too bad, after all.
