OMG, Such a Foodie Adventure!
Hey there, foodie fam! So, I recently organized a dinner gathering at YUN Cross Bridge Rice Noodle in Brick Lane, and they provided us with a unique and immersive dining experience that transported us to the rich culinary landscape of Yunnan, China.
First of all, let’s learn what Yunnan cuisine is, shall we?
- The ingredients are always fresh with a wide range, and the taste prefers to be sour, spicy, thick and various.
- The frequently used cooking techniques are steaming, deep frying, quick boiling, stewing, stewing in soy sauce. Roasting is the mostly used skill, seasoned with lemongrass from Xishangbanna.
Ambiance:
Okay, so the vibe at YUN was very inviting with earthy-colored walls. The seating arrangement provides an intimate setting, making it suitable for both casual outings with friends or casual dates.
Service:
Manager Ms. Yao was absolutely fantastic—very professional—and all the staff took care of us well. The prompt service added to the overall positive impression
Drinks:
Major props for the awesome selection of Chinese soft drinks and beer they’ve got!
Price: £
Thrilled with the prices! Sending a big shoutout to Ms. Yao.
What I Ordered:
Fried Yellow Pea Cake
As the plate arrived, the golden hue of the Fried Yellow Pea Cake immediately caught my eye. Crispy on the outside, but oh-so-soft on the inside – the contrast was heavenly. The golden crust gave way to a tender, melt-in-your-mouth interior that was pure comfort food bliss.
Feast Platter
It was a feast for the eyes! The vibrant colors, artistic plating, and the sheer variety of dishes created a visual spectacle that builds anticipation for the flavors that follow. Instagram-worthy doesn’t even begin to cover it!
One of the standout features of the Feast Platter was the remarkable balance of textures. The crispy pork, succulent Yunnan Fried Chicken, and the Sweet Marinated Egg each contributed a unique texture, creating a delightful interplay of crunch, tenderness, and juiciness.
The Ghost Duck Salad was my favorite; with its almost Thai-flavored notes, it added a refreshing contrast to the ensemble.
Silken Tofu Rice Noodles
The flavor profile of the Silken Tofu Rice Noodles was a testament to the beauty of simplicity. Subtle yet rich, the dish allowed the natural flavors of the tofu to shine.
The delicate sweetness of the tofu harmonized with the mild nuttiness of the rice noodles, spiciness from the sauce, creating a symphony of flavors that was both refined and deeply satisfying.
Also, the inherent health benefits of tofu and rice noodles made this dish a wholesome choice, catering to those with a discerning palate and a commitment to a balanced lifestyle.
*Congee Rice Noodles
Favourite dish from the night! The Congee Rice Noodles embodied the essence of comfort food.
One of the highlights of this dish was the delightful textural interplay. The silky smoothness of the congee met the chewy satisfaction of the rice noodles, creating a symphony of textures that keeps each spoonful interesting and satisfying.
The portion size of the Rice Noodles were ample, providing a satisfying and filling meal. It’s a comforting option that won’t leave you hungry, making it suitable for those seeking a substantial and fulfilling dining experience.
Pao Lu Da
Totally vibed with the coconut flavor and sago. I’ve had this dessert a bunch in Japan, but finding it here in London? Not as easy as you’d think.
Rose Ice Jelly
The rose flavor was surprisingly bomb! The perfect dessert to refresh after a big meal. It’s not too heavy, but that black sugar soup added just the right amount of sweetness.
Conclusion:
YUN Cross Bridge Rice Noodle is like a culinary escape to Yunnan without leaving London. The welcoming atmosphere, the tentative service, and the signature dishes are legit.
If you’re down to drop some coin for a taste explosion, this spot is a must for your foodie bucket list.
