Discovering the Flavors of Sicily
If you’re craving a dining adventure that will transport you to the sun-kissed shores of Sicily without leaving rainy and chilly London, just head straight to Six by Nico Fitzrovia. Nestled away in a discreet corner of the city, this gem is where magic happens in the kitchen and takes you on an extraordinary journey.
The decor was simple, but I liked their big open kitchen, setting the stage for what turned out to be an exceptional evening of gastronomic delights. And their service was friendly and smooth. They even celebrated my birthday with a cake! Additionally, I would like to give kudos for their non-dairy menu option, which they graciously provided to one of our group members, even though we didn’t notify them in advance. Hats off to the chefs for whipping up those dishes with the same killer quality as the regular stuff. Ding-Dong, applause all around!
What I Ordered
Six by Nico Experience Sicily
*They also have a Matching Wine menu, but I wouldn’t recommend trying their wine pairing since the wines were bad.
*Anolini Ragu
This dish was a symphony of flavors and textures that elevated traditional Italian comfort food to an extraordinary level. The ragu offered an explosion of rich and savory flavors that merged with the truffle-infused creaminess. The pecorino’s sharp and slightly salty kick blends with the earthy truffle fragrance. It’s like a match made in food heaven!
Spaghetti Al Nero Di Seppia
The squid ink spaghetti was cooked to perfection with that al dente texture. The briny sea essence from the squid ink was there, not too overpowering, and it just went so well with the natural sweetness of the seafood. And those smoked mussels brought the depth to the whole dish that’s just incredible.
But the real star of the show was the shellfish bisque- velvety, rich, and exquisitely infused with the essence of shellfish, it was the soul of the dish.
Agnello Siciliano
This dish transported me to the sun-drenched shores of Sicily. The lamb had this amazing smokiness that was just perfect. And the Sicilian Caponata that came with it was a flavor explosion. It’s this sweet and tangy mix of eggplant, tomatoes, olives, and capers that added that Mediterranean freshness. It was like the perfect match for the rich lamb, creating this awesome balance.
But not sure about that lemon form on the plate. To be honest, the zesty and citrusy notes just didn’t seem to blend in with the other flavors.
Branzino
This seabass was on point. The kitchen totally nailed it – perfectly crispy skin and all. But the highlight for me was the Courgette & Basil Dressing. Velvety smooth and packed with herbaceous flavors that took the seafood to a whole new level. Seriously, it added this layer of complexity that made every bite a taste adventure.
Filetto Di Maiale
So the Pork Fillet was pretty good, but my favorite part here was the sauces. First up, we got the Orange Emulsion – talk about a burst of citrusy zing that balances the dish beautifully. And then there’s the Nduja – this spicy goodness just adds this captivating touch that’s hard to resist.
But if I’m keeping it real – the Pickled Fennel didn’t quite hit the right notes for me. It was just way too sour and messed up the whole dish’s balance.
Sicilian Limone
The way they presented this dish was like eye candy – all bright and cheerful, giving us a hint of the flavor explosion ahead. And let me tell you, the mix of textures and tastes was pure genius.
Now, about that Sour Lemon Curd – it was definitely sour. I mean, the chef must really be a fan of that lemony tanginess, just like with the pork dish, but for me, it was a bit much. The Hazelnut Ice Cream was a lifesaver though, so smooth and nutty, totally balancing out the whole thing
