A Dash of Spice, a Hint of Salt
I love going out to eat and trying new restaurants to meet a place like Salt and Plum. At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect given its located in Hammersmith and it doesn’t always seem packed. But they proved me wrong in the best way possible.
What I liked most was their friendly and attentive service. The staff went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable, even letting me switch to a cozier table that I got a view of their bread oven, where they whip up the most delicious Turkish bread.
*Aegean House Vegetables
If you’re a veggie lover or just enjoy a good veggie dish, try this one. The veggies were cooked to perfection, keeping their fresh flavors intact. The combo of potatoes, eggplant, peppers, and tomatoes was a total winner, giving you a great mix of textures and flavors.
Muhammara
The roasted red peppers dip brought a natural sweetness that blended nicely with the earthy walnuts, but I missed that smoky and slightly tangy kick. Nevertheless, the texture of the Muhammara was on point.
Babaganoush
The smoky undertones really shine through. The garlic, herbs, and spices perfectly complement the tahini, taking the dip to a new level of flavor.
I decided to pair both dips with some bread to enjoy alongside the cold mezze, but unfortunately, the bread didn’t quite have the texture I was hoping for.
Lamb Gubec Kapama
I found the lamb to be slightly dry and not as flavorful as I had hoped. The lamb didn’t seem to absorb the delicious blend of herbs and spices of the sauce. Additionally, the tomato-based sauce lacked the depth of flavor I was expecting. Also the rice accompanied was dry.
On a positive note, the pie was an absolute delight though!
Roasted Vegetable Pide
The pide itself struck the perfect balance between crispy and soft. What really stood out was the cheese, which added a creamy and savory dimension that beautifully complemented the roasted vegetables.
Conclusion
Salt and Plum left a impression on my heart as a hidden gem in Hammersmith. The friendly service made me feel like a valued guest, and the blue decor added a touch of elegance. Although some dishes fell short, the dinner as a whole left me thoroughly satisfied.
If you’re seeking a casual yet comfortable dining spot in the area, I recommend Salt and Plum.
