Casual Gastronomic Experience

First things first, the service was great. The staff was friendly and attentive. One lady was kindly asked me if I wanted an olive while I was waiting for my company. Plus, the prices were actually reasonable, which is a big thumbs up in my book. It’s nice to find a place that doesn’t break the bank but still delivers on quality.
I also liked their casual but stylish décor with comfort sofa seats.

What I Ordered:

  • *Tangy chicory salad with walnuts and cheese
  • Scottish steak tartare, toasted sourdough
  • Grilled Scottish salmon steak, gribiche sauce
  • Grilled Aubergine
  • Yorkshire rhubarb Eton mess, ginger shortbread
  • Apple tarte Tatin, clotted cream ice-cream

Unexpected standout dish for me was the salad cooked in from of my table. The cheese was creamy and tangy, perfectly complementing the chicory and walnuts. I also appreciated the attention to detail in the presentation, adding an extra touch of charm to the dish.

This dish didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The steak was a bit under-seasoned, and the sourdough it came with was surprisingly thin. I was hoping for a heartier bread that could hold up to the rich flavors of the steak. It would have been nice to taste more of the tangy caper’s note, which could have added a zesty kick to balance out the meaty goodness.

Grilled Scottish salmon steak, gribiche sauce

This dish left me feeling pretty let down. When it arrived, I couldn’t help but notice the lackluster presentation. It was just a plain salmon with a squeeze of lemon and some sauce. Nothing fancy or exciting. But what really got me was the absence of any accompanying sides. It looked like one of those ready-to-eat meals you’d pop in the microwave. And to top it off, the salmon didn’t have that vibrant color I was expecting.

Grilled Aubergine

Despite its unappetizing appearance, this dish managed to convince me with its delightful flavors. The aubergines were cooked to perfection, giving off that irresistible smoky and caramelized goodness that I couldn’t get enough of. And the sauce! It was a masterful combination of sweet and smokiness. To add some extra pizzazz, they even threw in some crunchy chips on top of the aubergines, creating an exciting play of textures that had me hooked.

Yorkshire rhubarb Eton mess, ginger shortbread

It stole the show with its vibrant hues, instantly drawing me in. A delicate ginger shortbread perched on top, adding a touch of warmth and spice to the whole shebang. Flavour was great too. Sweet, tangy, creamy, and crunchy all came together in perfect harmony, creating a symphony of deliciousness that left me wanting more. Trust me, this dessert is a medley of flavors and textures you won’t want to miss out on.

You know what they say, sometimes the classics are the best, and this dessert is no exception. It’s their signature dish, and for good reason! The apples were cooked with meticulous care, resulting in a tender consistency that added a delightful touch to the whole affair. A warm tarte, topped with caramelized apples, and accompanied by a generous scoop of cool clotted cream ice cream. It’s a match made in dessert heaven! The contrasting temperatures and flavors create a symphony of deliciousness that will have you savoring every bite.

Conclusion

Galvin Bar & Grill offers a casual and enjoyable dining experience in Kimpton Hotel located in a heart of London. It’s a great spot for both lunch, dinner, or even a business lunch with their great service and good prices.
