Tattooed Ambience with Forgettable Flavors
I recently dined at Tattu London, and I was captivated by the restaurant’s enchanting atmosphere. However, I feel disappointed with the lack of flavor in the dishes. The essence and juiciness of the ingredients were noticeably absent, leaving me longing for an authentic Chinese culinary experience…
Although, I must say they have a stunning interior design. They blend contemporary style with traditional Chinese elements, creating a space that is really chic. The red lanterns, lush greenery, and those fancy floral motifs added a touch of elegance to the dining area. Oh, and even though it was inside, they had this transparent glass roof that made me feel like I was dining on a breezy outdoor terrace. It was pretty awesome.
I also have to mention about the staff. They were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. hey made sure we had a great dining experience, and that’s something I really appreciated.
What I Ordered:
They claim that their menu is a fusion of modern Asian cuisine. However, in my opinion, everything seemed like a Chinese twist. Nevertheless, I appreciate the fact that they offer a wide variety of options to cater to different preferences, whether you’re a meat lover or a vegetarian.
Chicken Truffle Shumai
When the dish arrived, the air was filled with the tantalizing aroma of truffle, which got me super intrigued and excited for the explosion of flavors that was about to happen. But the dryness of the chicken filling and the overpowering truffle flavor just didn’t hit the spot. It was a bit of a letdown.
Pulled Pork Gyoza
The meat was dry once again, and it lacked the juiciness I had hoped for. There was no meat soup inside, and to make matters worse, the wrapper was hard. Additionally, the sauce didn’t have much flavor besides being spicy.
½ Aromatic Crispy Duck Pancakes
The presentation was visually appealing, and the duck had been skillfully roasted, achieving a delightful balance between the rich flavors of the meat and the satisfying crunchiness of the skin. I particularly enjoyed the accompanying hoisin sauce and spicy oil, which added an extra kick to the dish.
On the other hand, I did find the size of the pancake to be a bit uncomfortable. It was too big to easily roll the ingredients, and the texture was slightly powdery. Additionally, I felt that the dish could benefit from a greater variety of vegetables and condiments, which would have added more depth and freshness to each bite.
Szechuan Rock Shrimp
The crispy batter provided a satisfying crunch, but I couldn’t help but notice that the natural flavors of the shrimp were not there. Additionally, I found that the Szechuan seasoning didn’t have the level of complexity I was expecting. On a positive note, I thoroughly enjoyed the Japanese-style cucumber pickles that accompanied the dish!
Mock Chicken And Black Bean
While the mock chicken resembled the real thing (you might even be fooled into thinking it’s actual chicken if no one tells you it’s tofu, although I’m not sure if that’s a testament to their skill in imitation or if their chicken is simply dry), the black bean sauce, a key component of the dish, fell disappointingly short. It lacked the distinctive savory and slightly salty notes that are characteristic of a well-executed black bean sauce. The flavors didn’t quite harmonize.
Skull Candy
It is getting normal among London dining scene? They offer an extensive selection of handcrafted cocktails with the cool dishes. Look at this fancy dried ice presentation. You can see golden powder inside a cocktail! I recommend trying one of their signature cocktails for a complete sensory experience.
Conclusion:
Tattu London really nails it when it comes to creating a cool atmosphere and giving good service. But, the overall dining experience didn’t quite hit the mark in terms of flavor. If you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion and you’re not too concerned about getting that authentic Chinese dining experience, then Tattu London is a solid choice to check out.
