Under the Casablanca Stars: The Magic of Rick’s Cafe
For Casablanca, let me weave a tale of one special restaurant, a dedication to my beloved. If you seek merely a guide and not a love story, feel free to return to the seas of Google. But if your heart yearns to know where to dine in Casablanca when only one place will make the night unforgettable, linger here with me.
Let’s turn back time to when we were planning our Moroccan adventure. Initially, my partner suggested Fes, but my heart was set on Casablanca. Why? Firstly, my mother adores the Casa Blanca flower (though I’m unsure if it bears the city’s name), and secondly, the film “Casablanca” has always held a special place in my heart. Thus, we chose this coastal city, and one night in my Casablanca calendar was secretly reserved by my partner for a surprise dinner.
As the evening unfolded, he led me through the medina, and we found ourselves before a white building named “Rick’s Cafe.” Initially, I assumed we were destined for a quaint tea house. But the moment I stepped inside, it felt like stepping into a dream.
I had urged us to explore Casablanca, but had not imagined visiting this iconic film setting—kudos to my culinary-savvy partner for this enchanting surprise.
Ambiance:
I was transported to a world of timeless elegance. The décor seamlessly blended Moroccan and Western styles, very sophisticated but somehow nostalgic. The traditional Moroccan style architecture and you can see the gland floor from thee second floor too. I truly enjoyed the air of effortless glamour.
As we dined, live music gently enveloped us, casting a spell of romantic enchantment over the evening.
Service:
The service at Rick’s Cafe was exceptional; they graciously moved us to a table perfectly positioned to enjoy the live band.
Their warmth and professionalism enhanced our experience, ensuring we felt cherished and embraced throughout our enchanting evening.
Drinks:
Their charming bar counter, straight out of a cinematic dream, serves impeccable cocktails that tantalize the senses.
While their selection of glass wines is limited, each sip is imbued with the magic of the evening.
Price: £££
In the enchanting atmosphere of Morocco, dining transcends mere sustenance; it becomes an experience worth cherishing, where every dirham spent is a tribute to the magic of the moment.
What I Ordered:
Champagne Oysters
The oysters were tender and succulent, their natural brininess beautifully complemented by the creamy, velvety texture of the sabayon. The Parmesan cheese, lightly melted and golden on top, adding a delightful depth and a slightly crisp texture that contrasts perfectly with the creaminess below.
Prawn Salad Tropicana
This dish was visually stunning. The bright colors of the fresh papaya and avocado contrast beautifully with the deep green of the mixed greens and the rosy pink of the prawns.
But the true star of the dish was the Argan oil curry dressing. This unique dressing combined the nutty richness of Argan oil with the warm, aromatic spices of curry.
New York Strip Grilled Steak
The steak was sliced to reveal a succulent, juicy interior, cooked to a perfect medium as requested.
As I savored the first bite, the meat unfolded with tenderness and a robust, beefy essence, a testament to its superior quality and expert preparation on the grill. The slight char on its exterior bestowed a subtle smoky undertone, enriching its already exquisite flavor profile.
Lamb shank with Mashed Potatoes
The meat melted in my mouth with its tender succulence, infused with the essence of the braising sauce. The sauce had a depth that captivated the senses, with whispers of herbs, garlic, and a hint of red wine.
As for the mashed potatoes, they were a velvety delight, creamy and smooth with a perfect balance of butter, cheese, and seasoning. Each spoonful was a canvas for the rich lamb gravy, transforming every bite into a luxurious indulgence.
Rick’s Cheesecake
While the sauce was not to my taste, the cheesecake’s crust stole the show. Its buttery, crumbly texture offered a delightful contrast to the luscious creaminess within.
*Tatre Fine Aux Pommes
Believe me, it was an enchanting experience with the best Tarte Tatin I’ve ever tasted. Each bite was a journey into elegance and culinary mastery.
The pastry was exceptionally thin and flaky, providing a delicate crunch that complements the tender, slightly caramelized apple slices. The apples were perfectly cooked, retaining a bit of their natural texture while offering a soft, sweet, and slightly tart flavor that is the hallmark of a well-crafted apple dessert.
Conclusion:
There are moments from this journey that may fade with time, but I will forever remember this evening even when I may no longer be able to walk and need my partners support.
The melody of live piano music serenaded us throughout dinner, candlelit tables adorned with crisp white linens, his tender smile, and the sparkle in his eyes as he enjoyed the oysters, the clinking of glasses—all weaving an atmosphere of romance and refinement.
As I am sitting beside my window in my modest London room, gazing at the typical cloudy sky, my mind drifts back to that night. It was a night where time seemed to stand still, allowing us to savor each precious moment together.
Rick’s Cafe in Casablanca is a destination not to be missed, where exquisite cuisine, impeccable service, and an unforgettable romantic ambiance converge.
I departed with a heart overflowing with joy and love. Ti amo, my beloved partner!
