Where Neapolitan Meets Punjabi Magic
If you thought pizza was done evolving, East West is here to prove you wrong. This one-of-a-kind spot in London has turned the classic Neapolitan pizza into a playground of bold Indian flavors, and honestly? It works. Like, really works.
The backstory is pure passion: born from a food-filled epiphany on a 2019 trip to Puglia, Devinder and his wife decided to blend their love of Italian cuisine with the flavors of Punjab. After opening in early 2020 (just before, you know, everything shut down), they hustled through rocky times and hit their stride after winning Britain’s Best Takeaways in 2021.
Fast forward to 2024, and they’ve mastered their craft, with people lining up for what might just be London’s most exciting pizzas.
Atmosphere:
There’s a kind of understated confidence here—no gimmicks, no pretension, just great food and a place you actually want to hang out in. Wherever you sit, you’ll feel like you’re part of this restaurant’s story.
Service:
The staff here are exactly what you want: knowledgeable without being overbearing, quick to make recommendations if you’re overwhelmed (which, fair, because everything sounds so good). It’s the kind of place where you feel looked after, especially the owner himself actually explained to us.
Drinks:
They don’t just stop at pizza mastery—they’ve made sure your drink game is just as memorable. Their cocktail menu is where Italian aperitivo culture gets a bold Indian twist, and the results are dangerously good.
I ordered Masala Chai Old Fashioned, and it was a masterpiece of balance, blending the cozy, spiced warmth of masala chai with the smooth, boozy bite of bourbon.
Price: ££
Pizzas start around £13 and climb to the £17–£18 range for their more elaborate creations. Considering the quality of the ingredients, the unique fusion concept, and the generous portions, it feels more than fair—this isn’t just pizza, it’s a magical pizza.
What I Ordered:
Desi Patatas Bravas
It was a flavor-packed celebration of cultures coming together. I loved how it combined the tapas-style familiarity of patatas bravas with the exciting, layered spice. The flavors were bold without being overpowering, making it impossible to stop at just one bite.
Crispy Corn Chilli Pepper
It’s got that street food vibe—simple, spicy, and totally satisfying. Why have I never thought to toss corn kernels in a spicy, crispy batter before?
It makes for a great appetizer or snack to share (or not—because once you start, it’s hard to stop). It’s the ideal pairing with something refreshing, like a crisp British lager.
Onion Bhaji
Thinly sliced onions were coated in a light, spiced batter and fried to golden perfection, creating a crunchy exterior while keeping the onions sweet and tender inside.
The homemade chutney served alongside added a wonderful balance—tangy and slightly spicy with just the right amount of sweetness to cut through the heat.
Hara Bhara
The spinach sauce base was a lovely twist, and the toppings felt fresh, vibrant, and creative—this was far from your average vegetarian pizza.
The rich spinach sauce base really made this pizza stand out, offering a slightly earthy backdrop that complemented the toppings beautifully.
*The O.G
The tandoori chicken brought a burst of smoky, spiced flavor, with just the right amount of heat and a mouthwatering char from the grill.
The buttery base felt like a warm hug, but the tandoori chicken and red pesto ensured I was never bored with my bite. It was a flavor-packed, well-rounded pizza that’s both rich and had the contrast between the creamy, spiced, and savory elements made it hard to put down.
Afterburner
If you’re a fan of spice and love a pizza that brings serious heat with no compromise on flavor, Afterburner is the one to try. It was bold, it was fiery, and it left me with a satisfying burn that made me want to take another bite. This is a pizza for those who like it hot—literally.
The tikka sauce was providing a perfect platform for the toppings to shine.
Masala Jackfruit
This pizza proved that plant-based options could be just as delicious as their non-vegan counterparts.
The masala tomato sauce base set the tone, offering a rich, spiced foundation that’s both aromatic and tangy, without feeling too heavy.
The pulled jackfruit actsed as the perfect meat alternative, mimicking the texture of shredded chicken while soaking up all the delicious masala spices.
C.T.M
What made the C.T.M (Chicken Tikka Masala) so satisfying was how it managed to feel both familiar and exciting at the same time. It wa a reimagined version of the classic Chicken Tikka Masala, but reimagined on a pizza, offering a delicious mix of savory, smoky, and slightly tangy flavors that’s perfectly balanced.
Chai Tiramisu
It was a beautiful fusion of Italian tradition and Indian spice—indulgent yet comforting, and the perfect way to end your meal on a high note.
The traditional layers of mascarpone cream were rich and velvety, and the magic came from the infusion of masala chai spices. But the real surprise? A crunchy Parle-G biscuit on top. This Indian nostalgic touch added a delightful texture contrast to the creamy layers below.
*Gajar ka Halwa
This dessert was a showstopper and, without a doubt, one of the highlights of East West’s menu.
The carrots maintained a lovely tenderness, while the slow cooking brought out their natural sweetness, turning them into the perfect base for this indulgent dessert. Then the addition of cardamom cream? Genius. It added a creamy, slightly spiced richness that lift the dish and complements the sweetness of the halwa beautifully.
Conclusion:
East West is a bold experiment in fusion done right. It’s fun, it’s different, and it’s definitely worth your time. Grab a friend (or three), order a few pizzas and cocktails, and prepare for a flavour-packed meal that’ll make you wonder why no one thought of this sooner.
