A Culinary Honeyed Delights
Buckle up, because I’m about to take you on a delicious adventure to Bistrot Wild Honey in the heart of St. James! Guess what? They also opened this bistrot right next to their high-end restaurant. This place is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered for their new concept.
Ambiance:
Imagine stumbling upon a modern British-style bistro with high ceilings right in the middle of the city—it’s that magical. You’re definitely going to want to stay awhile. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a good laugh, delicious drinks, and amazing food.
Service:
The staff were super attentive and really knew their stuff. It’s impressive how smoothly they run things, especially since they just started. Even though it’s a bistro, they never slack on service.
Drinks:
Has a range of wines that pair perfectly with the food. Whether you’re in the mood for classic wines or something a bit more fancy cocktails, there’s a drink for everyone.
Price: £££
The prices are pretty reasonable for the quality I got. The starters might be on the smaller side, but the mains are a good size.
What I Ordered:
Maldon rock Oysters
It is a great dish to start your meal. They were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, offering a taste of the sea that’s both simple and sublime.
*Salad of Marinda tomatoes, spring vegetables, sweet spice
You might be thinking, “Just another salad,” but let me tell you, the one at Bistrot Wild Honey is anything but ordinary. It’s a delightful testament to the chef’s skill in balancing flavors and textures, and it’s sure to kickstart your taste buds for the rest of your culinary adventure.
So, what makes this salad stand out? It’s all about the sweet spice. The balance of flavors was spot-on, with the sweet spice enhancing the natural goodness of the tomatoes and veggies without stealing the show.
English asparagus, crushed poached egg vinaigrette
The egg underneath the asparagus was a stroke of genius. Its rich creaminess blended perfectly with the tangy vinaigrette, creating something special flavor that took the asparagus to a new level.
Plat du jour – pork belly with lentils
It was a dish that exemplified comfort food elevated to gourmet heights.
The pork belly was cooked to absolute perfection, so tender it practically melted in my mouth. Every bite was a perfect balance of savory meat and delicious fat, giving me a burst of flavor that’s both comforting and indulgent.
Whole young chicken lacquered with honey and preserved lemon
It was a beautifully balanced entrée that showcased the chef’s skill in blending bold flavors with traditional techniques.
The meat itself was incredibly tender and juicy, a testament to careful cooking. And that crispy skin? It added the perfect crunch to every bite.
The taste. The honey glaze imparted a subtle sweetness that enhanced the natural flavors of the chicken without overwhelming them. The balance of sweet and tangy flavors from the lemon elevated the dish, making each bite a delightful experience.
*Crushed seasonal potatoes, spiced brown butter
First off, the potatoes were cooked to absolute perfection—tender and just the right amount of creamy. Then, they were lightly crushed to give them that perfect texture, not too smooth, not too chunky.
Now, let’s talk about that spiced brown butter. It was like a flavor explosion! The butter was browned to perfection, giving it this amazing richness that was out! of! this world!
Conclusion:
Bistrot Wild Honey is a place where great food, a stylish atmosphere, and impeccable service come together to create a dining experience that is both memorable and delightful. Especially if you are a fan of comfort food but appreciate a sophisticated touch of the flavor, Bistrot Wild Honey is your go-to.
One thing to mention is that their menu is straightforward, and so are the dishes’ presentations. Does not align with their phancy vibe. I’m not entirely convinced I’ll be making a beeline back for another visit. Take the salad, for example. It tasted great, but the presentation was pretty much what I’d whip up at home. If they’re aiming for a Michelin-star bistrot, I’d expect dishes that look a bit more upscale.
